Malaysia's national dish consisting of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf, served with spicy sambal, crispy anchovies, toasted peanuts, cucumber, and hard-boiled egg.

Gather and prepare all ingredients as specified in the ingredient list.

Wash the rice and place it in a rice cooker.

Add coconut milk, water, a pinch of salt, and knotted pandan leaves.

Cook as per normal rice setting.

Fry the dried anchovies (ikan bilis) in hot oil until golden and crispy.

Remove and drain.

In the same oil, fry the peanuts until toasted.

Make the sambal: Blend chili, onion, and garlic.

Sauté in oil until fragrant.

Add tamarind juice, sugar, and salt.

Cook until the oil separates and it turns dark red.

Hard boil the eggs, peel and halve them.
