    Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or cast-iron skillet.

    In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, and baking powder.

    In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, and egg.

    Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.

    Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

    While cornbread bakes, whip the softened butter and honey together until fluffy.
