Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese
Rich and creamy baked macaroni and cheese topped with a crispy breadcrumb crust.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook for 1 minute less than the package directions for al dente. Drain and set aside.

In the same pot or a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to make a roux.

Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Continue to cook, whisking frequently, until the sauce bubbles and thickens, about 5-8 minutes.

Remove from heat. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper until the cheese is fully melted and smooth.

Stir the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated. Pour into the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the cheese sauce is bubbly.
